ACSSU General Scholarship

About

The Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Student Union (ACSSU), with support from the Assyrian Aid Society (AAS), has established the ACSSU Scholarship. This scholarship is intended to provide support for Assyrian youth in the community who are attending post-secondary education and demonstrate strong academic performance, engage in diverse extracurriculars, and contribute to the Assyrian community as a whole.

Description of Scholarship

One $1000 scholarship will be given to an Assyrian (also known as Chaldean or Syriac) student who has been admitted to or is continuing post-secondary education in a Canadian institution for the 2024 - 2025 academic school year. This includes both colleges and universities.

Requirements

  • At least one parent of Assyrian descent

  • Must be a permanent Canadian resident, Canadian citizen, or possess appropriate paperwork indicating ability to study in Canada

  • Application form with all applicable fields completed

  • One original unofficial transcript or report card of the most recent completed academic year (2023-2024)

  • Must be enrolled in and have proof of full-time studies at a post-secondary institution for the 2024-2025 academic school year.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Academic Performance: 30%

  • Application Form: 30%

  • A combination of extracurricular activities and contributions to the Assyrian community: 40%

Important Dates

  • Application opens: June 24, 2024

  • Final date to submit application: August 5, 2024

  • Scholarship applicants will be informed: August 23, 2024

  • Scholarship will be presented on ACSSU's social media platforms: August 26, 2024

Applications will be reviewed by the ACSSU Scholarship Committee and will be evaluated based on a weighted average system. The applicant with the highest overall score will be awarded the scholarship.
